What causes deep ridges on finger nails?

For the past year I have not used any nail polish . I use Cairnes or Lacombe hand cream.

Very expensive products but they are supposed to help moisturise in order to rectify this condition.

It hasn't helped. As soon as my nail grows it splits (almost like flaking off) because there are so many of these ridges.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. What causes deep ridges on finger nails?
Do not waste your hard earned money on Lancome or any other synthetic mositurizer. They are toxic and are not going to do any good to you. Buy some castor oil or jojoba oil which will greatly heal your hands. The ridges depend on which way they go...horizontal ridges? vertical ridges? either way its not a good sign. it coud indicate kidney, liver problems, severe stress, heart conditions. You should definerly get checked by a homeopathic or naturopathic doctor as they usually know how to detect these internal problems and correct them. You should also focus on your diet. helathy nails need vitamin B, iron, zinc and calcium.
