I have heard if you have ridges in your finger nails you are lacking some vitamin or something?

Iron deficiency.I have heard if you have ridges in your finger nails you are lacking some vitamin or something?
I think they're called Beau's lines.(sp)

Associated with a prior illnessI have heard if you have ridges in your finger nails you are lacking some vitamin or something?
These are called nail-patella syndrome, a hereditary syndrome consisting of dystrophy of the nails, absence or hypoplasia of the patella, hypoplasia of the lateral side of the elbow joint, and bilateral iliac horns. And good luck.
Vertical ridges, no. Those just happen as you age, for whatever reason.

Horizontal ridges, yes, those can be a sign of a mineral deficiency.
